Can I Fly to Colombia with a Vape Pen?

If you're planning a trip to Colombia and wondering if you can bring your vape pen, the answer is yes, but it has to travel in your carry-on bag.

This article covers the airline rules for flying to Colombia with a vape pen, how to pack it, and how Colombia regulates vaping once you arrive.

Travel Regulations for Vape Pens in Colombia

Vape pens are allowed on flights to Colombia, but not in checked bags. On flights leaving the US, TSA allows vapes only in carry-on baggage.

For your return flight and any domestic flights, follow your airline's rules and those of the Colombian Civil Aviation Authority.

Here are the key rules for flying with a vape pen:

• Vape pens must be packed in your carry-on luggage, not checked luggage.
• You must prevent the device from switching on by accident, for example by locking it or switching it off.
• Each lithium-ion battery must be 100 watt-hours or less.
• Vaping on the plane is not allowed, and you should not charge your vape on board.
• These rules apply to all types of vape pens, including disposable vape pens, rechargeable vape pens and e-cigarettes.

Packing Your Vape Pen for a Flight to Colombia

Now that you know the rules, here is how to pack.

Lock or switch off your vape pen. If the battery is removable, you can take it out and carry it in a battery case.

Keep spare batteries in a case. This keeps them away from coins, keys and other metal objects that could short them.

Pack your vape pen in your carry-on luggage. Never put it in checked luggage, and take it out of any bag that gets gate-checked.

Pack e-liquid with your liquids. E-liquid bottles in your carry-on follow the liquids rules at security.

You don't need to declare a nicotine vape for personal use at security. Be ready for an officer to inspect it if asked.

Vaping Rules in Colombia

Colombia does not ban vapes. Since 2024, Colombian law has put e-cigarettes and similar devices, with or without nicotine, under the same controls as tobacco products.

That means sales to minors are prohibited, and "smoke-free" spaces are also free of vape aerosol. Don't vape anywhere smoking is banned, such as enclosed public places.
